GIPA’s Global General Assembly at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Forging Partnerships with Government Senior Staff towards Indonesia Emas 2045
Jakarta, Indonesia (August 23, 2023) – Following the conclusion of the first day of the Global Human Capital Summit in The Westin, Global Indonesia Professionals’ Association (GIPA) alongside distinguished representatives of Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other senior government officials engaged in a pivotal interaction to further promote the interests of the Indonesian diaspora. The dialogue, which centered on harnessing insights from the Indonesian diaspora, hopes to shape key diaspora policies including the impending assessment of RPJMN/RPJPN in 2025.
Around 50 attendees including government officials, GIPA members, and leaders of overseas professional hubs were present during the GIPA’s Global General Assembly, a closed-door conversation which took place in the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Government officials from the Ministry of Investment (BKPM), Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), and Ministry of Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Kemenkkomarves) were some who were in attendance during this groundbreaking session.
Several objectives in the agenda include examining the needs of current and past diaspora members and exploring strategies for the government to support a growing diaspora population. Central to this dialogue is a white paper published by GIPA, namely the Indonesia’s Diaspora Strategy, which has grown in momentum as the government continues to highlight the diaspora’s strategic role in the country’s national development within recent years.
Ms. Siti Mauludiah, the Senior Advisor to the Foreign Minister on Overseas Indonesians & Cultural Affairs, gave the opening remarks followed by Mr. Steven Marcelino, the Chairman of GIPA. The convention continued with presentations from several overseas professional hubs leaders who offered their opinions and insights on the conditions that Indonesian professionals are facing abroad and their interest in partnering with the Indonesian government. Government stakeholders, such as Ms. Gita Sjahrir, special advisor to the Ministry of Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs; Mr. Pradana Indraputra, the special advisor to the Minister of Investment, Ms. Alia Laksono, the special advisor to the Minister of Youth and Sports, and Mr. Adi Winarso, Deputy Assistant for Multilateral Cooperation at the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Kemenkopolhukam) offered their esteemed comments and reactions to the presentation and how they see future collaborations with the Indonesian diaspora as they move forward.
As the curtains fall on this year’s edition of the Global Human Capital Summit, GIPA remains poised for further synergies with governmental stakeholders. Looking forward, GIPA welcomes further partnership with the government to bolster the advancement of Indonesia’s human capital and achieve Indonesia Emas 2045.
The closed-door conversation aims to amplify Indonesia’s Diaspora Strategy and strengthen partnerships with the national government
